Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 1999 Brut Vintage dates from the first year Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon took the reins as Chef des Caves chez Roederer. At disgorgement, he made a point of opting for a lower-than-usual dosage for this lower-acid vintage, with a view to long aging, and that choice is resoundingly vindicated today. Bursting with aromas of golden orchard fruit, peach and mandarin mingled with buttery pastry, brioche and iodine, it’s medium to full-bodied, fleshy and generous, with an enveloping, gourmand profile and a long, sapid finish. At its peak today, this complex and demonstrative mature Champagne is a delight to drink.
