Winemaking
Fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels. Aged for a minimum of 78 months in the bottle before disgorging.
Description
Bérêche Le Cran 1er Cru comes from the Montagne de Reims, specifically from Ludes 1er Cru. This wine is grown on the parcels «Les Hautes Plantes», which are exposed to the west, and «Les Vignes Saint Jean», exposed to the east. Both plots are located at an altitude of 220 metres above the Cran de Ludes. With an area of 0.52 ha, the vines have an average age of 45 years, which gives them a unique maturity and character.
Winemaking
The soil on which these vines grow is lean and very chalky, with a chalky surface that gives the wine very particular characteristics. As for its blend, it is composed of a balanced 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. Its elaboration is meticulous: it undergoes a slow fermentation in oak barrels and ageing on lees. It is made with natural cork, and has spent 78 months in the cellar. Its dosage is 3.5 g/L, which gives it a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity.
Taste
Le Cran 1er Cru is a powerful and resonant champagne. When served, creamy notes unfold and intensify with time in the glass. Its aromas are reminiscent of apricot, dried pear, spices, cedar, camomile and hints of honey. On the palate, it is a full and generous champagne, with exceptional volume and a splendid finish. Intense notes of citrus, candied fruit, peach, apricot and spices can be perceived.
Renowned critics such as Antonio Galloni and Bernard Burtschy have praised this wine, highlighting its fruity intensity and its bright, salivating acidity. It is undoubtedly a masterful display of what the terroir of Ludes 1er Cru has to offer, and a jewel that any wine lover should taste at least once in their lifetime.
